James Zarate goes to adult jail

Teen charged in Randolph murder moved to adult jail:

The 15-year-old charged with helping his brother murder and sever the legs of 16-year-old neighbor Jennifer Parks in Randolph last year was ordered held in the Morris County jail this morning on $1 million bail.

Superior Court Judge Salem Vincent Ahto approved the transfer of James Zarate from the county Juvenile Detention Center to the county jail since the youth on June 7 was "waived up" from juvenile status to be tried as an adult.

Defense lawyer Joseph Ferrante said it would "be a tragedy" if the teen -- who was 14 when he allegedly helped his then-18-year-old brother kill Parks on July 30 -- was moved to the adult facility. Ferrante characterized the state's evidence against James Zarate as weak and based upon the statements of a co-defendant and DNA from a piece of chewing gum found in a bag containing supplies used to clean up after the murder.

"My view is it would not be appropriate for him to be amongst other juveniles," Ahto said, saying he believes it is in the public's interest to hold the teen in an adult facility.

One of the mantras here at News of Doom says if you commit and adult crime you deserve adult time. Have fun in Morris County Lockup.

Rich, it is very sad that you defend James for what he did. He killed someone's little girl. Maybe someday when you have children it will happen to you and then we will see how you feel about the guy that hurts your child. Hey maybe if John and James ever get out they will get your child next (since you want them out so bad)

another mom first of all when i have my children ill make james is the godfather. and u kno something else when i have children ill make sure they dont sneak out the house at 2 in da morning. and another thing its not very sad dat im defendin my cousin because up until now they have yet to find any type of evidence or anything proving that he had anythin to do with the killing. so another mom next time before you talk out your ass make sure u kno wut u talkin about.

Rich you are a selfish brat...it is very sad that you are trying to defend a lil shithead....how anyone could do something as terrible as those two boys did is beyond me...and the fact that you are defending them proves that you must be just as fucked up as them...one more thing he should be kept in an adult jail its where he belongs...what they did is very distrubing

Oh Rich, you have showed us all just how stupid you are. It sounds like your just like them. Anyone who defends those two Zarate brothers and wants them as their childs God parent has to be more then an idiot. Watch out for Rich everyone he will probably kill next!!! By the way if you know James Zarate, you just know he had something to do with the killing. I wouldn't dought if they father helped them clean up the mess after the murder. That's something he would do, just clean up their mess like always.

really mad... wut do u mean by 2 boys... when theres any type of evidence pointing towards james then i swear to u i wont defend them anymore... till then he is innocent till proven guilty... it just so happens that the judge is in favor of parks and it clouds judgement but its alright cuz life aint fair.. and as for james im not goin to say im glad hes in an adult jail but atleast his friends and family can c him now and im not worried for him cuz i kno hes strong...and another mom my uncle didnt ever cover for up for them he just wouldnt punish them... he was to nice and sometimes thats a bad thing...and like i said james was like a brother to me and he would never disobey me and i still and will always love him for that

5461658, let me tell you something. I LOVE my kids with all my heart but if they took another persons life for no reason at all I would NOT defend them. I would be hurt that is for sure, I would visit them in jail and give them all my love but DEFEND I would not do. As far as "who I think I am" I'm not a murderer that is for sure nor would I defend one.

i knew james and he never hurt a girl i think helping his brother the one he looked up to most really was a dumb thing i blame his brother for being a bad role model when we dated things were great i miss him and i hope he gets the help he needs. im sorry to the girls family james was my boyfriend but we broke up

It upsets me to read all these comments from u people. I knew the boys, I knew them since they were little. There was always something "off" about them. It sad to know what they did. I shiver everytime I read an article describing it all. What they did was WRONG. However, anothermom, all parents protect their children. I know their mother and she was completely distroyed. She knows her sons did it; she knows they have a problem, especially Jonathan. That's why he was going to live with his aunt so she can treat him. James on the other hand should have known better, but I have a brother and I know that if he were to need my help I would help. I doubt that James knew exactly what he was doing. I feel bad for the girl. I don't know her, but I would have NEVER gone over a boys house at 2AM!!!! Especially when we didn't really get along. She was looking forward to something else b/c NO girl goes over a boys house at 2AM to "watch TV". Sadly for her it ended terribly...CTown
